CELLAR SPECIALS DOWN TO EARTH SAUVIGNON BLANC 2013 $20.00 per bottle Down to Earth Sauvingon Blanc 2013 is the second release of Down to Earth Sauvignon Blanc from the close-spaced Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in Wrattonbully, South Australia. Down to Earth is a family business run by Xavier Bizot and Lucy Croser and is located in one of Australia’s most exciting regions, next to Tapanappa’s Whalebone Vineyard and at the top of a north-south limestone ridge in Wrattonbully. The wine is a very good example of modern Sauvignon Blanc with low alcohol (12.4 per cent v/v), bright fruit characters combined with an excellent texture and good varietal characters. It also shows a great intensity of flavours and good length, demonstrating the exceptional quality of the terroir in the Wrattonbully vineyard site. YABBY LAKE PINOT GRIS 2015 MORNINGTON PENINSULA $31.50 per bottle This wine is a result of over 10 years of trial and experimentation that has created an exceptional wine. Yabby Lake Pinot Gris 2015 is pale yellow in colour with lifted aromas of green olive, wild honey, musk and pear. A mouth filling, vibrant and savoury wine that is elegantly structured with sweet fruit, medium body and persistent crisp finish. GRAILLOT SYRAH 2012 HEATHCOTE $40.00 per bottle Crozes Hermitage legend Alain Graillot and his Australian importer Robert Walters have come together to produce a special Syrah from a single vineyard in Heathcote, Victoria. The wine has an elegant structure, restraint and balance that shows wild red berries, ink and crushed fresh herbs on the nose with a hint of graphite typical of the region. Textured raspberry and blackberry that is more Pinot Noir than Syrah greets you on the palate along with a sublime ultra-fine tannin structure. ECCOLO SAGRANTINO 2013 ADELAIDE HILLS $30.00 per bottle Eccolo wines is a new label for Mark Day and Anna Koltunow, of Koltz Wines, showcasing wines made from Italian varieties grown in the cool climates. The wine is fermented in open fermenters with extended maceration for 70 days, then basket pressed and aged in French oak for 20 months. Garnet in colour it personifies savoury earth, leather, dried tomato leaves aroma with hints of chocolate. It is rich and mouth coating, a whole palate experience. Chocolate, lots of fine tannins and great length. It is an absolutely fantastic food wine and just loves a bowl of pasta. Tattler Summer 2015 37
