Will has Angelman Syndrome, which is a neurological disorder meaning that Will has global development delays, severe speech impairment and is unable to walk. Variety, thanks to the generosity of supporters, was able to help with the cost of a new wheelchair, so Will can get out and about with his family, enjoying all that life offers a bright and bubbly four year old. Variety – the Children’s Charity of Queensland is the state’s branch of this renowned international not-for-profit, dedicated to helping children just like Will and others across the country who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. Through the direct supply of equipment and services, Variety assists children in need to overcome whatever obstacles they may face and continue to live a happy and fulfilled life. Variety Queensland is proud to work with groups, individuals and organisations to raise funds throughout the year to assist children in need – whether it be a wheelchair for nine year old Mitchell who has Spina Bifida, Epilepsy and Autism, a Variety Liberty Swing (a wheelchair friendly swing) in a park in Mareeba in northern Queensland, nebulisers for children all across Queensland who have Cystic Fibrosis or educational camps for students from remote Queensland – the organisation truly lives up to its name in the range of services it provides and pride themselves on making a real and lasting impact on children in need. David McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of Variety Queensland, and his Variety team, as well as valued fundraisers, work to ensure that support reaches where it is needed most. “We are so grateful to have a very dedicated support base, who work all year to fundraise for the children we collectively support. We strive to assist children from all across the state – from the south east corner, right up to the Cape,” David said. Tyson Clarke, Director from Queensland Property Advice and Tattersall’s Member, is one of these valued supporters, having dedicated time to fundraising through organising his own events and in August of this year, participated in the renowned Variety Bash – a 10 day, 3,500 kilometre trek around the Queensland outback, raising money for kids in need. “After seeing firsthand the difference that Variety makes and how it changes children’s lives, I knew I had the ability to help in making that happen so the Variety Valentines Ball fundraiser was born. The children we help will never forget the assistance they receive and this is a theme I wanted to base the fundraiser on, ‘Unforgettable Experiences’, memories that last a lifetime. The lucky door prize alone is two scenic flights to Antarctica – you’ll never forget that. There is over $45,000 in prizes up for grabs, plus sensational entertainment and surprises all night,” says Tyson. Tyson’s fundraising event, the ‘Variety Valentines Ball’ is taking place at Tattersall’s Club on Saturday 13 February. Limited to only 400 tickets, it is a Gatsby theme so go all out – it promises to be a truly unforgettable night.
