Simmons earned his 50th Queensland Cap during the Reds’ Heritage Round clash against the Waratahs in the second match of the season at Suncorp Stadium. He went on earn selection in the Australian squad that took on the British & Irish Lions and was again selected by Ewen McKenzie for The Rugby Championships and Spring Tour. While in Europe, Simmons showed his versatility. After missing the first Test against England due to injury, he returned to the starting line-up at blindside flanker. Simmons hails from Theodore, a small country town in central Queensland with a population of just 450. The reliable prop played every Super Rugby match, starting at tighthead in all but one and logging 1214 minutes, which was second only to Quade Cooper (1360) among the Reds. He captained the team on five occasions, including the opening four rounds of the competition with James Horwill sidelined by injury. In the final game of the regular season against the Waratahs, Slipper earned his 50th Cap for Queensland in the team’s 14-12 win, which includes the tour match against the British & Irish Lions. Slipper was also selected in the Australian side that played the Lions before being selected in Ewen McKenzie’s national squads for The Rugby Championship and Spring Tour where he was a regular starter at loosehead prop.
