At just 23 years of age, Schatz is on the cusp of 50 Super Rugby caps after making his debut in 2010. He started in every one of the Reds’ games in 2013, including their clash against the British & Irish Lions at Suncorp Stadium. He was awarded the inaugural Frank Ivory Medal for his man-ofthe match performance against the Rebels in the Reds Indigenous Round and capped his sensational season at the Reds Gala ball, winning the ‘Most Improved Player’ award as well as Queensland Rugby’s greatest honour, the ‘Pilecki Medal’. Schatz was also selected in the Australian squad for The Rugby Championship, but an untimely knee injury ruled him out on the eve of what would have been his Test debut at Suncorp Stadium. Now entering his third season with the Reds, Shipperley will be looking to cement his role as a starting winger after adding a further 11 Super Rugby caps to his tally last year. Shipperley featured as a starting winger in eight matches in 2013 and added a further appearance for the Reds as a replacement in their clash against the British & Irish Lions. Unfortunately, he spent much of his pre-season undergoing rehabilitation following shoulder surgery as a result of an injury suffered in August while playing Premier Grade Rugby with Brothers. Shipperley enjoyed a ground-breaking 2012 season, capped with Wallaby honours, the Most Improved Player for the Year Award for the Reds, and Australia’s Super Rugby’s Try of the Year accolade.
