SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE 2014 REDS 89 BEN LUCAS @BennyLucas87 Position: Scrumhalf Physical: 178cm/84kg Date of Birth: 30 December 1987 Place of Birth: Ipswich, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 62 Super Rugby Points: 61 Super Rugby Debut: Round 3, 2008 vs Brumbies, Canberra Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – Ben Lucas again proved his utility status in 2013, playing at scrumhalf, fullback and wing throughout the season. Starting as the Reds’ run-on scrumhalf, Lucas shifted to the role of utility replacement following Will Genia’s return from a knee injury. He finished the season as the side’s starting fullback, including their match against the British & Irish Lions, scoring three tries. Lucas added a further 10 Super Rugby caps to his record in 2013 following an impressive 2012 season in which he excelled as the team’s chief playmaker for large portions of the campaign. He earned his 50th cap during the Reds’ 2012 Australian Conference winning efforts. His time at flyhalf in 2012 included the Reds’ first-ever victory at Eden Park, arguably their most impressive win of the season. In that match, Lucas ignited a 42-27 come-from-behind victory with a brilliant individual try. DAVID MCDULING @davemcduling Position: Lock Physical: 196cm/115kg Date of Birth: 7 April 1989 Place of Birth: Sydney, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 0 Super Rugby Points: 0 Super Rugby Debut: – Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – David McDuling is yet to make his Super Rugby debut, after an injury in 2012 proved a significant setback to the promising utility forward. McDuling entered 2012 as one of the team’s most interesting prospects but was cruelly struck down by a season-ending knee injury only days before the Reds opening pre-season game. The setback carried into 2013, with the lock unable to get his hands on a jersey in the Reds’ competitive back row. McDuling was an impressive performer before joining the Reds and represented Australia at both U20 (2009) and Schoolboys (2007) level and was an integral part of the Sydney University 2010 premiership-winning Shute Shield team. In search of further opportunities, McDuling made the move north from Sydney in 2012 to join the QAS Reds Academy, which is a proven pathway for players to develop and take their games to the next level.
