Holmes reached the milestone against the Sharks at Suncorp Stadium, becoming only the third prop to ever reach 100 games for Queensland, behind Dan Crowley (124) and Stan Pilecki (122). The burly prop featured in every one of the Reds’ games in 2013, starting in all but one of their matches, including the clash against the British & Irish Lions. Holmes has been a staple in the club’s front-row since making his debut in 2005 and is now arguably in career-best form after featuring in every one of his side’s matches in the last two Super Rugby seasons. He has been a major asset for the Reds with his ability to feature on either side of the scrum invaluable to the team’s success. JAMES HORWILL @JHorwill Position: Lock Physical: 200cm/116kg Date of Birth: 29 May 1985 Place of Birth: Brisbane, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 87 Super Rugby Points: 30 Super Rugby Debut: Round 1, 2006 vs Waratahs, Brisbane Test Caps: 48 Test Points: 30 Test Debut 9 June 2007 vs Fiji, Perth Talismanic lock James Horwill had a slow start to the 2013 season as he battled to return from a hamstring injury that plagued him at the tail end of 2012. The skipper returned against the Bulls in Round 6 and helped the Reds secure a crucial 23-18 win over the eventual winners of the South African Conference. Horwill went on to play a further nine games for the Reds during the season, leading them to their third consecutive Super Rugby Finals Series appearance. The veteran added another milestone to his career in 2013, leading Australia against the British & Irish Lions and is just two caps shy of reaching his half century. While the Wallabies didn’t win the series, the opportunity to face the Lions is one that eludes many of the game’s greatest and the spirit and passion shown by Horwill during that three-Test series is testament to his character and love of the game.
