SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE 2014 REDS 81 STEVE MEEHAN Position: Attack Coach Born: 1 December 1966, Brisbane AUS Coaching History: GPS First Grade Coach (1999-2002) Stade Français Backs/Skills Coach (2002-06) Bath Head Coach (2006-11) Force Assistant Coach (2013) Reds Attack Coach (2014-) Former Jeeps first grade coach Steve Meehan returns to Queensland as the Reds attack coach in 2014. Steve’s coaching career began at GPS, where he coached first grade from 1999 to 2002, guiding the side from second last to minor premiers over the course of three seasons. He then travelled to France, where he took on the role of Backs and Skills Coach with Stade Français from 2002 to 2006, during which time the side won the Top 14 Championship twice. In 2006 he moved to Bath, where he took over the role of Head Coach. Two years into his five-year stint with Bath, Meehan won his first European Challenge Cup. Following the 2011 season, he returned to Australia and took a year off coaching to allow time to re-settle in his native land, before taking up an opportunity with the Force in 2013, where he coached alongside the Reds new forwards coach, Nick Stiles. ALBERT ANAE @albertanae Position: Hooker Physical: 185cm/112kg Date of Birth: 21 June 1989 Place of Birth: Wellington, NZL Super Rugby Caps: 17 Super Rugby Points: 0 Super Rugby Debut: Round 11, 2011 vs Hurricanes, Wellington Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – Now in his second year as part of the main playing group, Albert Anae is a utility front row player that can cover both prop and hooker. The 2013 Super Rugby season saw Anae feature in 11 of the Reds’ 17 games, as well as a run from the bench against the British & Irish Lions in June. He returns in 2014 with added experience, having spent time in the Wallabies set up, after being called into The Rugby Championship squad. Anae earned his first Super Rugby start in 2012 when he was called into the number two jersey as injury cover against the Force at Suncorp Stadium, the Reds prevailing 35-20. The Wellington-born hooker made his debut for the Reds during their historic 2011 campaign, earning his maiden Super Rugby appearance against the Hurricanes in his city of birth.
