Woodward moved to Melbourne following a breakthrough 2012 ITM Cup campaign for the Wellington Lions, disappointing many New Zealanders – including All Blacks coach Steve Hansen – in the process. A former New Zealand U20 representative – winning the 2010 Junior World Championship – Woodward’s confidence with ball in hand has been on display for all to see in his debut season. His greatest assets are his speed, skill and versatility and while predominantly being played at fullback, Woodward has also been utilised on the wing and is capable of playing at flyhalf as well. He will again be seen as a player to watch in his second season at the club in 2014.
