He joined the club’s Extended Playing Squad from the Manly Marlins but managed to feature for the club on nine occasions. Gaining his maiden start against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, flair and aggression at the breakdown has seen Reid compared to recent great Wallaby flankers George Smith and Phil Waugh. After a season of dominating the Sydney Colts competition, the transition was a swift one for Reid. He was noticed by Rebels and ARU scouts and given the opportunity to prove himself in Melbourne. Reid has re-committed to the Rebels until at least the end of the 2015 season and will continue to work hard with the Rebels’ coaching staff as he looks to cement a starting spot amongst a very strong back row in 2014. ANGUS ROBERTS Position: Flyhalf Physical: 186cm/92kg Date of Birth: 17 December 1990 Place of Birth: Gunnedah, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 7 Super Rugby Points: 5 Super Rugby Debut: Round 4, 2013 vs Reds, Melbourne Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – The Rebels were able to fend off opposition from rival Super Rugby clubs to sign promising young flyhalf Angus Roberts on a two-year deal ahead of the 2013 season. Roberts’ first season of professional rugby was an overwhelming success with the youngster featuring for the Rebels on seven occasions in Super Rugby and scoring his first try against the Kings in Round 9. Roberts also featured for the Combined NSW & QLD Country side against the British & Irish Lions in Newcastle which was a tremendous honour for the young gun. Roberts is highly regarded amongst his Melbourne peers with many of the coaches claiming he is one of the most natural footballers they have ever seen at the club. ‘Gussy’ is currently studying a Management degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Technology in Sydney.
