2014 SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE REBELS 66 SHOTA HORIE @shotahorie Position: Hooker Physical: 180cm/104kg Date of Birth: 21 January 1986 Place of Birth: Osaka, JPN Super Rugby Caps: 6 Super Rugby Points: 0 Super Rugby Debut: Round 2, 2013 vs Brumbies, Melbourne Test Caps: 27 Test Points: 30 Test Debut 15 November 2009 vs Canada, Miyagi Japanese international hooker Shota Horie made history in 2013 when he became the first Japanese player to feature for an Australian Super Rugby side (narrowly missing the honour of first overall when Fumiaki Tanaka came off the bench for the Highlanders in the night’s preceding match). Horie played every game for Japan at the 2011 Rugby World Cup and scored a try against Canada in the group stages. He is a strong ball running forward and aggressive tackler with a high work rate. Horie made six appearances for the Rebels in 2013, including one start against the Blues in Auckland, as he continued to train hard and work on his scrummaging. Horie has committed to the Rebels for the 2014 season where he will attempt to become the club’s regular starting hooker. The 28-year-old spent two seasons with the Canterbury Academy in New Zealand before returning to Japan in 2008 where he won the Top League with the Panasonic Wild Knights, scoring eight tries in the process. MITCH INMAN @mitch_inman Position: Centre Physical: 191cm/104kg Date of Birth: 24 October 1988 Place of Birth: Sydney, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 46 Super Rugby Points: 15 Super Rugby Debut: Round 1, 2010 vs Brumbies, Perth Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – Mitch Inman joined the club at the start of the 2012 season after two years with the Force and in 2013, consolidated his position as an integral member of the Rebels’ backline. Inman was a standout player last season, in particular defensively where he made 106 tackles – just one behind Nick Phipps who had the most as a backline player. Inman played all but one of the Rebels’ games last season and added try scoring to his repertoire as he crossed three times, including twice in defeat to the Blues in Auckland. In 2012, Inman’s efforts were rewarded when then Australian Head Coach Robbie Deans called the young centre on to the Spring Tour, but he fell agonisingly short of making his Wallaby debut.
