Fainga’a, who captained Australia’s U20 side at the 2011 Junior World Championship, made 35 appearances for the Brumbies since debuting in 2010 as a 19-year-old. Having learnt from and played alongside Wallaby flankers George Smith, Michael Hooper and David Pocock, Fainga’a brings an outstanding skill set to Melbourne. Known for his high tackle completion numbers and pilfering ability, Fainga’a will provide intense competition for the openside flanker position. Fainga’a saw his 2012 season devastated by injury, but hit back well in 2013 to feature in 16 matches, including the Brumbies’ Super Rugby Finals campaign. The Kiwi-born flanker played in every match for the Rebels in 2013 and was awarded the Spirit of Weary Dunlop Award for the player who showed the most passion on the field. At 100kg, he represents the traditional openside flanker, with great presence at the breakdown and an immense work rate around the park. Fuglistaller seized an opportunity to play a key role with the Highlanders late in the 2012 Super Rugby season. A New Zealand U19 representative in 2006, he’s also played 54 provincial matches for Wellington and has signed a two-year deal with the Rebels. He showcased elite tackling numbers last season (94.44 per cent) and his 187 tackles led the Rebels and placed eighth overall in Super Rugby.
