He signed as injury-cover at the start of the 2013 Super Rugby season and debuted off the bench in the Round 1 clash against his former side, the Rebels. When regular starter, Nathan Charles, suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Cheetahs, Tessmann took up the starting hooker role, playing 13 matches for the club. The 29-year-old was a foundation member of the Rebels and played 10 Super Rugby matches for the Victorians during 2011 and 2012. The former rugby league player made five appearances for Wests Scarborough before returning to play four games for Shute Shield club, Northern Suburbs where he had been a regular in the side that made the Semi-Finals. He turned down an offer from French rugby league side Catalans to focus on rugby – thanks largely to the influence of Northern Suburbs coach Scott Fava.
