Holmes, a former Aquinas College student, advanced through the rugby pathway Perth, representing the West Australian schoolboys in 2007 before being selected in the RugbyWA Academy in 2009. He was also a member of the Australian Rugby Sevens side that finished third in the 2009-10 IRB Sevens World Series before returning to the 15-a-side game with the Brumbies in 2012. Holmes made just two appearances in a highly-competitive Brumbies outfit last season, scoring one try for the Super Rugby runners-up. The prop is one of three Perth-born players in the squad this year – along with new recruits Luke Burton and Zack Holmes – while Longbottom is the first born-and-bred player to progress directly through the local rugby pathway to the Force.
