The 25 year-old has been a consistent performer for the Force since being drafted into the squad as injury cover during 2010 and until his injury, had not missed a match in four seasons. He started his career with the Brumbies but had to wait until moving to Perth to receive his first Super Rugby cap. Charles also spent a year at Gloucester in 2011 before returning to the Force. At just three months of age, Charles was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and is now an ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis Australia. Cottrell is a workhorse back-rower who is physical at the breakdown and is renowned for his high work rate. He scored his first Super Rugby try in Round 3 against the Bulls, touching down for a 50-metre intercept in Pretoria. Cottrell took up an Extended Playing Squad contract with the Force for the 2012 season before being elevated to the senior squad for 2013 and 2014. He was among the team’s most effective tacklers in 2013, posting an 89.5 percent success rate, ranking fourth among players with at least 50 tackles.
