2014 FORCE 40 MICHAEL FOLEY Position: Head Coach Born: 7 June 1967, Sydney AUS Coaching History: Bath Forwards Coach (2001-06) Australia Assistant Coach (2006-08) Waratahs Assistant Coach (2009-10) Waratahs Coaching Coordinator (2011) Waratahs Head Coach (2012) Force Head Coach (2013-) Michael Foley enters his second season with the Force after joining the West Australian side ahead of the 2013 Super Rugby season from the Waratahs. In 2013, under the guidance of the former Rugby World Cup-winning hooker, the Force returned its best winning percentage at home since 2009, including epic victories over the Crusaders and Brumbies. The team also recorded its first ever triumph over the Reds in Brisbane. Foley has 50 Test caps to his name, making his debut against Canada during the 1995 Rugby World Cup and retired at the end of 2001. His transition to coaching happened almost immediately with Foley heading to England as Bath’s Forwards Coach. He’s also served stints for the Wallabies and Waratahs before finding his way to Perth. DAVID WESSELS Position: Senior Assistant Coach Born: 18 February 1983, Johannesburg RSA Coaching History: Stormers Defensive Consultant (2008-09) University of Cape Town Assistant Coach (2009‑11) Brumbies Defensive Consultant (2012) Force Defensive Consultant (2013) Force Assistant Coach (2014-) David Wessels re-joins the Force as the Senior Assistant Coach after fulfilling the role of Defence Consultant with the club during the 2013 season. He brings with him a wealth of rugby knowledge from three years with South African Varsity Cup side, University of Cape Town, as well as consultant roles with the Brumbies and Stormers in Super Rugby. In Wessels’ time with the Brumbies in 2012, his defence strategies saw the side concede the fewest points in the Australian conference and the second least overall.
