Stringing 18 Super Rugby games together at flyhalf in 2013 handed Toomua a spot in Ewen McKenzie’s squad for The Rugby Championship and he made his Australian debut against the All Blacks in Sydney. Coaches have been pleased with Toomua’s progress, particularly considering the challenges he faced earlier in his career. Playing behind Matt Giteau, Toomua struggled for time in his first four years before a crippling knee injury cut his 2012 campaign short. A highly professional player who has been in the elite system since the day he finished school, Toomua’s approach to recovery, rehabilitation, training and game day have all been behind his eventual rise to the top.
