2014 SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE BRUMBIES 32 JORDAN SMILER @jordysmiler Position: Flanker Physical: 193cm/107kg Date of Birth: 19 June 1985 Place of Birth: Palmerston North, NZL Super Rugby Caps: 4 Super Rugby Points: 0 Super Rugby Debut: Round 9, 2013 vs Highlanders, Dunedin Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – A likeable chap with a calming disposition, Jordan Smiler is a welcome addition to the full time squad after earning a promotion from the 2013 Extended Playing Squad. As an extra option at the lineout, Smiler adds height and athleticism while his ability around the park is also a bonus when the team is on attack. Formerly known as a Sevens star who went within a whisker of representing New Zealand, Smiler ended up in the Australian capital after switching allegiances to Australia where he was eventually picked up by Scott Fava for Northern Suburbs in Sydney. Smiler joined the squad in a train-on capacity in 2012 before migrating through the ranks to hold one of 30 full time contracts in Canberra. A new dad and husband in late 2013, Smiler is looking forward to a big 12 months ahead. In his four Super Rugby appearances last year, Smiler made 31 tackles, missing only one. ANDREW SMITH Position: Centre Physical: 194cm/102kg Date of Birth: 10 January 1985 Place of Birth: Sydney, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 38 Super Rugby Points: 30 Super Rugby Debut: Round 6, 2010 vs Blues, Auckland Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – Andrew Smith is a strong and evasive ball carrier and enters his fifth Super Rugby season needing just 12 appearances to notch up his 50-cap milestone. Hailing from Sydney and a former member of the Waratahs Academy system, Smith came to the capital after claiming the Ken Catchpole Medal with Northern Suburbs in 2008 as best player in the Shute Shield competition. Smith’s 2013 season was marred by several difficult injuries and as a result game time was limited, playing just 232 minutes across seven appearances. But when he was on the field, Smith was making things happen. His first (and last) touches on return from injury set Henry Speight up against the Highlanders while his in-and-away to Tevita Kuridrani clinched the match-winner against the British and Irish Lions.
