2014 SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE BRUMBIES 30 LEON POWER Position: Lock Physical: 200cm/116kg Date of Birth: 27 February 1986 Place of Birth: Sydney, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 10 Super Rugby Points: 0 Super Rugby Debut: Round 1, 2012 vs Force, Canberra Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – With a birth certificate that says he’s an Aussie, a heavy, northern Kiwi accent, Australian residency and two caps as a Junior All Black, it’s fair to say Power’s heritage is open to interpretation. But what fans can bank on is 100 per cent effort and a passionate approach to playing rugby for the ACT. One of three players in the squad to measure at least 200cm (along with Sam Carter and Jack Whetton), Power adds a quality option at lineout time and is a significant presence around the pitch when the ball is in play. During the 2013 Super Rugby season in which he made just three appearances, Power spent the first half of the season battling a hamstring strain suffered while taking on Tonga A for the ACT during the Pacific Rugby Cup. He has previously represented Taranaki (2007-10) and Bay of Plenty (2011-12) at New Zealand provincial level. CLYDE RATHBONE @clyderathbone Position: Centre Physical: 181cm/93kg Date of Birth: 23 June 1981 Place of Birth: Durban, RSA Super Rugby Caps: 63 Super Rugby Points: 90 Super Rugby Debut: Round 9, 2002 vs Crusaders, Durban Test Caps: 26 Test Points: 40 Test Debut 13 June 2004 vs Scotland, Melbourne A veteran of the club and the Super Rugby competition, Clyde Rathbone returns for his seventh season of professional rugby in 2014. All eyes were squarely focused on Rathbone in 2013 as he made a remarkable comeback having not played the sport since 2009. In all, it was a highly successful year with the Wallaby winger making his mark in 11 games including being a mainstay throughout the Super Rugby Finals Series. Born and raised just outside Durban in South Africa, Rathbone made his way to Canberra as a 21-year-old at the end of 2002. He had already made his Super Rugby debut with the Sharks and cut his teeth as a the captain of the champion, South African U21 side in 2001, but a lifestyle change and chance to play in the Australian capital proved too good an opportunity to pass up.
