The strapping lock will look to push for more senior honours in 2014, knowing that the initial injury to Eben Etzebeth could help his cause. Botha made his Super Rugby debut as a 20-year-old for the Lions against the Chiefs in 2012 and was also part of the Junior World Championship-winning South Africa U20 team later that season. SCHALK BURGER Position: Flanker Physical: 194cm/114kg Date of Birth: 13 April 1983 Place of Birth: Port Elizabeth, RSA Super Rugby Caps: 88 Super Rugby Points: 35 Super Rugby Debut: Round 4, 2004 vs Waratahs, Cape Town Test Caps: 68 Test Points: 65 Test Debut 24 October 2003 vs Georgia, Sydney One of the most popular – and feared – players in world rugby, Schalk Burger made an incredible comeback from injury and illness in the latter stages of 2013. The powerful and skilful loose forward has not played Super Rugby since the start of 2012, but his performance for the Barbarians against Fiji in November 2013 reminded the world of his great presence and talent at the highest level. Burger was voted the 2004 IRB Rugby Player of the Year and the South African Rugby Player of the Year in 2004 and 2011. His father, also named Schalk, represented the Springboks during the 1980s.
