SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE 2014 BRUMBIES 27 PAT MCCABE Position: Centre Physical: 186cm/94kg Date of Birth: 21 March 1988 Place of Birth: Manly, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 49 Super Rugby Points: 30 Super Rugby Debut: Round 1, 2010 vs Force, Perth Test Caps: 20 Test Points: 20 Test Debut 20 November 2010 vs Italy, Florence Pat McCabe will look to bounce back from a series of injuries in 2014 to resume his place as one of Australia’s premier backs. The versatile McCabe has been utilised at most positions across the backline having played professionally at fullback, inside centre, outside centre and on the wing, but it’s been at inside centre where he’s had the most impact and was a mainstay for Australia during the 2011 and 2012 international seasons. Long touted as a leader of the squad, McCabe lets his on-field work do the talking with one of the most complete defensive games in the competition. If there is a gap to be plugged, McCabe is generally your guy – a trait that was on show during the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. McCabe has overcome two serious neck injuries, was cleared to resume contact training in January and will be a significant boost for the Brumbies if he can stay healthy throughout 2014. JESSE MOGG @jesse_mogg Position: Fullback Physical: 187cm/90kg Date of Birth: 8 June 1989 Place of Birth: Brisbane, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 28 Super Rugby Points: 84 Super Rugby Debut: Round 1, 2012 vs Force, Canberra Test Caps: 3 Test Points: 0 Test Debut 6 July 2013 vs British & Irish Lions, Sydney It’s only taken 24 months for Jesse Mogg to go from quality club player to a Super Rugby force. Since bursting onto the scene in Round 1 of the 2012 season with a try on debut against the Force, Mogg has continued on a steady ascent to stardom and was eventually rewarded with three Test caps. A key element to the Brumbies’ win over the British and Irish Lions last year, Mogg was handed a second crack just over a week later, a match where Australia would ultimately fall 41-16. With his booming left foot, Mogg has eased pressure on the backs over the last two seasons and along with Nic White, is credited with being one of the longest kickers in Australian rugby. He played 16 Super Rugby matches last season, scoring six tries and six penalties, plus leading his team in defenders beaten (38) and kicks in play (141).
