He made his Super Rugby debut in the Cheetahs’ first match of the 2010 campaign against the Bulls and scored a hat trick during a Currie Cup match against the Griquas the same year. Oosthuizen has been called up to the South African squad every year since 2010 and made his Test debut two years later. He moved to the tighthead side with great success and played 12 Tests in 2013. He has played 14 Tests in all, 13 as a replacement prop for either Tendai Mtawarira or Jannie du Plessis. Oosthuizen played all 17 of the Cheetahs’ matches last season, logging 1022 minutes, scoring a pair of tries and sticking 103 of 113 tackle attempts. He also ranked among the team leaders with 116 carries, ranked fourth at the franchise. He represented the Emerging Springbok team in Romania in 2008 and proved to be one of the Cheetahs’ main attacking threats in the Currie Cup. He scored a franchise-record nine tries in 2011 and was the joint leading try scorer in the tournament (alongside Bjorn Basson and Sean Maitland). He also earned selection in the Springbok 50-man pre-World Cup squad and was voted South Africa’s Super Rugby Player of the Year in what was a breakout year for the scrumhalf. Pretorius’ try-scoring ability has not been confined to Super Rugby however as he’s crossed 48 time in 117 provincial matches. He played 14 matches for the Waratahs during the 2012 season and returned to Bloemfontein for the Currie Cup that same year.
