He is a strong runner with ball in hand and possesses sound defence skills and tactical kicking. He is an excellent goal-kicker, comfortable around the 55-metre range. After being sidelined by a shoulder injury for nearly four months in 2012, Goosen was called up for national service despite playing just 50 minutes in his only Currie Cup match of the campaign. He made his debut as a flyhalf replacement for Morné Steyn against Australia in Perth in 2012. He played in the number 10 jersey in Pretoria, also against Australia, but was unfortunately sidelined by a knee injury and was unavailable to face the All Blacks. Because of injuries, Goosen missed the whole of 2013 Currie Cup competition. He has represented South Africa at Schools, U18 and U20 level. The combination of pace, acceleration, anticipation and quick feet makes Hendricks one of the most threatening ball runners in South African rugby. He is also a fine defensive wing and should prove a big asset to the squad in 2014, also possessing the flexibility to step into the centres if called upon.
