SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE 2014 CHEETAHS 257 OS DU RANDT Position: Assistant Coach (Forwards) Born: 8 September 1972, Elliot RSA Coaching History: Cheetahs Forwards Coach (2009-) South Africa Forwards Coach (2010) Os du Randt was rated as one of the best loosehead props in the world and is one of only six players ever to have won two Rugby World Cups (1995 and 2007 – the other players being John Eales, Dan Crowley, Phil Kearns, Jason Little and Tim Horan). He’s also one of a very few players to win the World Cup, Tri‑Nations (2004), Currie Cup (2005) and South African Player of the Year (1997). Du Randt’s vast experience was put to good use by former Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers, who drafted the retired player into the Springbok management as a scrum consultant. Drotskè followed suit by offering the prop a full-time position at the Cheetahs. This turned out to be a great recruiting tool as well, as numerous young props now look at Bloemfontein and Du Randt’s coaching as a pathway to success. It was no wonder that two test debutants in 2013 (Trevor Nyakane and Lourens Adriaanse) came from the Cheetahs’ scrum.
