After starring for Campbelltown, Illawarra and NSW Country, as a 15-year-old, Auelua moved to rugby nursery Trinity Grammar at Summer Hill in 2001 where he was selected for the Australian Schoolboys, before moving north to the Southport School in Queensland a year later. On the cusp of 30, Auelua is no spring chicken. The Samoan knows his way around the professional rugby circuit having played for Dax (2006-07), Toulon (2007-10) and NTT Shining Aces (2011) in the French and Japanese leagues before arriving in Canberra in 2012. He was added to the Australian train-on squad in 2013 and featured 18 matches of the Super Rugby campaign, including the Final in Hamilton against the Chiefs. His 924 metres gained were easily the most for the Brumbies last season ahead of Ian Prior (621) and Stephen Moore (608). Having cut his teeth with the Reds over the last two seasons, Butler is now focused on becoming a Super Rugby full-timer having made 10 appearances for the Reds last season. Big, strong and aggressive on the ball, Butler is surprisingly agile and was part of the victorious Brumbies Sevens side at the end of year tournament in London. Born in Wellington, Butler moved to across the Tasman to Queensland at the age of 13 and has flourished in his adopted country. As a junior, Butler was part of the talent-heavy Southport School 1st XV in 2007 which also featured the likes of Jono Lance (Waratahs), Luke Morahan (Force), James Slipper (Reds) and Mark Swanepoel (Tasman, ITM Cup).
