Mastriet now runs with a purposeful confidence and is doing what he is noted for – scoring tries. Despite limited opportunities in 2013, Mastriet celebrated his Bulls debut with a try, as he did in his provincial debut the year before. Expect the dynamic winger to deliver when called upon. VICTOR MATFIELD @VictorMatfield Position: Lock Physical: 200cm/110kg Date of Birth: 11 May 1977 Place of Birth: Polokwane, RSA Super Rugby Caps: 124 Super Rugby Points: 40 Super Rugby Debut: Round 1, 1999 vs Brumbies, Johannesburg Test Caps: 110 Test Points: 35 Test Debut 30 July 2001 vs Italy, Port Elizabeth Victor Matfield’s return to the rugby field after a three year absence took many by surprise as there was general agreement that he took well to the coaching role he had with the franchise in 2013. The veteran lock’s return to rugby in February after retiring in 2011 resulted in a media frenzy in South Africa with mixed feelings about the wisdom of this decision by Springbok rugby’s most experienced player. The player himself insisted that his body will be up to the rigours of playing in the toughest competition in the world. There is little doubt that Matfield vast experience and proven leadership abilities will add tremendously to a youngish Bulls pack. The player will have a target on his back though, especially in the early part of the season, and will have to prove all his doubters wrong. Already with one of the best lineouts in the competition, the Bulls will feel even more comfortable with Matfield, generally rated as the best lineout exponent in the world, back in the line-up.
