His last year in Canberra’s John I Dent Cup was 2012, which saw the Vikings defeated just once on their way to the title. Well regarded by his peers, McKellar will take control of the defence, as well as player development. BEN ALEXANDER Position: Prop Physical: 189cm/120kg Date of Birth: 13 November 1984 Place of Birth: Sydney, AUS Super Rugby Caps: 81 Super Rugby Points: 80 Super Rugby Debut: Round 3, 2008 vs Reds, Canberra Test Caps: 62 Test Points: 20 Test Debut 6 June 2008 vs France, Sydney Now a veteran of six campaigns, Ben Alexander will edge further towards 100 Super Rugby caps in 2014 making him one of the club’s – and Australia’s – most dependable props. With more than 60 Test appearances against his name and one of only four props to have earned 50 or more caps for the Wallabies, Alexander has emerged as one of Australia’s most experienced players. Just 13 players will start the new Super Rugby campaign with more Test experience than Alexander. Having started his career at loosehead, Alexander’s knack for finding the line was highlighted by claiming the club’s top try-scorer award in 2010. Since then, he has migrated to the other side of the scrum and is now Australia’s premier tighthead prop. His elusiveness is highlighted by the fact he led the Brumbies in defenders beaten last season (37). Alexander is a self-confessed Diet Coke addict and makes the most of his spare time playing golf at Canberra’s Federal Golf Course.
