Bulbring received a taste of Super Rugby while still a junior at the Lions and with the Johannesburg-based franchise dropping out in 2012, he was an obvious candidate for the Kings to headhunt for their 2013 debut. He did not disappoint with the Eastern Cape franchise, accepting responsibility to call the lineouts and providing leadership throughout the pack. The Bulls moved swiftly when the Kings were demoted and contracted the former Junior Springboks lock, who performed well during the Currie Cup. Bulbring is the only active Super Rugby player to make his debut at Welkom, Free State, and made 16 appearances last term. Jacques du Plessis started with UP-Tuks in the domestic Varsity Cup competition and, after a couple of dominating performances for the eventual champions, the lock/loose forward was a shoe-in for the Junior Springboks who finished third at the Junior World Championships in France. An injury crisis after the inbound tests in June resulted in a Super Rugby debut at lock against the Stormers and he subsequently became a regular starter at flank at Currie Cup level. Big, strong and powerful, much is expected of the emerging Du Plessis in 2014.
