The 2013 provincial season was a big one for the young prop, who earned himself a spot in the All Blacks team for their end of year European tour, debuting in Tokyo. He is a quality scrummager, strong with ball in hand, and possesses a huge work rate on defence. Toomaga-Allen was also a member of the Junior World Championship-winning New Zealand U20 side in 2010 and featured nine times for the Hurricanes during the 2013 Super Rugby season. A former Kelston Boys’ High School student, Vaega’s strong running ability and solid play on defence was what caught the eye of Hurricanes selectors. He represented New Zealand at U17 level and studied a Bachelor of Sport & Recreation at the Southern Institute of Technology while pursuing his burgeoning rugby career. He is the son of former Samoan international, To’o Vaega, who made 61 appearances over a 15-year career.
