Since making his Test debut for the All Blacks in 2012, Savea has become a permanent starter for the national side with his pace and strength marking him as a potent attacking player. Named Hurricanes Player of the Year in 2012, the Wellington local has worked hard on and off the field which has seen him mature as a player. Savea has represented New Zealand Schools and the All Blacks Sevens as well as New Zealand U20s and earned the honour of being named IRB Junior Player of the Year in 2010. He featured on 15 occasions for the Hurricanes last season, logging 1200 minutes and scoring seven tries – the most for the franchise alongside TJ Perenara. Prior to that, the loosehead prop had two seasons with French Top 14 club, Agen (2011-13). Schwalger’s outstanding performances for the Hurricanes back in 2006 and 2007 earned him an All Blacks call-up against Canada, where he scored a try on debut in a 64-13 romp over Canada. Schwalger played two games for the Hurricanes in 2013 after returning from France,and his experience is sure to be an asset to the franchise in 2014. He holds the quirky distinction of being the only active Super Rugby player to make his debut in New Plymouth.
