The bruising hooker is known for his bone-crunching defence and ability to create an immediate impact off the bench. As well as his muscle and strong defensive play, Matu’u also brings a strong work ethic to the side and lifts those around him, leading by example. A mainstay for the Wellington Lions and eight Super Rugby caps last year, Matu’u looks set to fire in the 2014 Super Rugby season. HADLEIGH PARKES Position: Centre Physical: 187cm/101kg Date of Birth: 5 October 1987 Place of Birth: Hunterville, NZL Super Rugby Caps: 18 Super Rugby Points: 10 Super Rugby Debut: Round 3, 2012 vs Bulls, Pretoria Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – Hadleigh Parkes is one of the fresh faces at the Hurricanes for the 2014 season and brings experience from his time at the Blues (2012) and Kings (2013). Although playing his provincial rugby in Auckland, Parkes is originally from Hurricanes’ territory and is excited to be fronting for the Super Rugby team he grew up supporting. The 26-year-old will deliver experience and leadership skills, which are sure to be an asset to the side in 2014.
