Bateman was one of the senior Hurricanes players in 2012, earning his 50th Super Rugby cap in the final match of the season; a 28‑25 triumph over the eventual championship-winning Chiefs. Last season also proved to be a productive year for the centre with Bateman playing a leading role in the Lions’ ITM Cup campaign, where they finished runners-up to Canterbury. Bateman was also named captain of the Maori All Blacks for their 2013 North American Tour and offers experience and great attacking knowledge as a chief playmaker. He previously represented the Crusaders from 2007-10. He adds to the hotly-contested locking positions within the team and has provided a multitude of strong performances throughout the past two seasons. The Kaitaia-born forward joined the Hurricanes in 2010 after previously playing for Canterbury and was a member of the Crusaders’ Wider Training Group. Broadhurst attended secondary school in Gisborne and went on to represent New Zealand at U19 and U21 levels.
