A physical tight forward who has the ability to play on the blindside flank, Hoeata will continue to add steel to the Highlanders’ pack in 2014 after returning from the Maori All Blacks’ tour of North America. He has previously represented the Chiefs at Super Rugby level, making his debut against the Lions in 2010 and featured on 13 occasions for the Highlanders last season. From there, Ioane has gone from strength to strength and after being called up as injury cover by the Highlanders in 2013, he became a valuable member of the team. Ioane followed his Highlanders’ debut season with a strong ITM Cup campaign for Otago and was rewarded with a contract for 2014. Ioane will be aiming for a strong year to help him secure a starting place in the team and build upon his 13 caps at this level.
