SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE 2014 HIGHLANDERS 189 TONY BROWN Position: Assistant Coach Born: 17 January 1975, Blenheim NZL Coaching History: Sanyo Wild Knights Player/Coach (2006-11) Sanyo Wild Knights Head Coach (2012-13) Otago Head Coach (2012-13) Highlanders Assistant Coach (2014-) Tony Brown joins the Highlanders after two successful seasons as Head Coach of the Otago ITM Cup team, taking the squad to the playoffs in both 2012 and 2013. He also famously won the Ranfurly Shield for the first time in 56 years. Brown also coached in the Top League in Japan from 2006-12 following a successful playing career in the land of the rising sun. He is a favourite son in Dunedin after representing the Highlanders between 1996-2004, earning 83 caps and scoring 817 points. He also had brief playing stints with the Sharks (2006), Stormers (2008) and returned to the Highlanders for a further eight Super Rugby caps in 2011. JON PRESTON Position: Skills Coach Born: 15 November 1967, Dunedin NZL Coaching History: Wellington Skills Coach (2011-12) Highlanders Skills Coach (2013-) Former All Black Jon Preston is in his second season coaching the Highlanders. Preston played 10 Tests for the All Blacks between 1991 and 1997. He has been involved with the Wellington Lions as a specialist skills coach over the past few seasons and will be fulfilling this same role for the Highlanders in 2014.
