He is not new to Super Rugby though, playing his debut season with the Hurricanes in 2013, a year after being part of the Chiefs’ development squad. He is a physical and powerful back who caught the Crusaders’ attention with some impressive statistics playing for both Counties Manukau and the Hurricanes. He creates opportunities for players around him, both with the ball in hand and his offload ability, and will add some firepower to the midfield. Lee-Lo played 12 Super Rugby matches for the Hurricanes last season, scoring one try and beating 20 defenders. As a master of the breakdown and one of the coolest heads in the game, McCaw is considered by many as the greatest openside flanker of all time. He debuted for the Crusaders in 2001 and was also selected for the All Blacks’ end of year tour that year despite having only played a total of eight minutes of Super Rugby. He quickly became the first choice openside flanker and was first named All Blacks captain in 2004 at just 23 years of age. In 2012 he became the first player to achieve 100 Test victories. McCaw captained Canterbury to the national provincial title in 2004 and then led the Crusaders to consecutive Super Rugby titles in 2005 and 2006, then again in 2008.
