2014 SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE CRUSADERS 166 TODD BLACKADDER Position: Head Coach Born: 20 September 1973, Rangiora, NZL Coaching History: Edinburgh Forwards Coach (2004-05) Scotland Assistant Coach (2004-05) Edinburgh Head Coach (2006) Crusaders Technical Assistant (2007) Tasman Director of Rugby (2007) Tasman Head Coach (2008) Crusaders Head Coach (2009-) Former All Blacks skipper Todd Blackadder returns for his sixth year as Head Coach of the team he also led successfully as a player. Blackadder took on the Crusaders role after coaching in Scotland, then taking Tasman to the Quarter Finals of New Zealand’s national provincial competition in 2008. He had previously enjoyed an illustrious playing career consisting of 25 All Blacks matches (including 14 as captain) and three Super Rugby titles as captain of the Crusaders – the only man to achieve this feat. He also served as captain of the Canterbury provincial team and is one of the region’s greats. DAVE HEWETT Position: Assistant Coach Born: 14 July 1971, Christchurch NZL Coaching History: Sydenham Forwards Coach (2008-09) Crusaders Scrum Coach (2008-09) Crusaders Forwards Technical Advisor (2010) Crusaders Assistant Coach (2011-) Former All Blacks prop Dave Hewett joined the Crusaders coaching team as a Scrum Coach in 2009 and served as a Technical Advisor to the forwards in 2010. He has been an Assistant Coach for the last three seasons and his expert guidance with the forwards has helped the Crusaders earn the reputation of having one of the most efficient scrums in the competition and he will focus on set piece play this season. Hewett played 22 Tests for the All Blacks after making his first appearance at age 30. He scored a try on his Test debut against Ireland in Dublin during 2001 and played the last of his internationals at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. He played 71 matches for the Crusaders, 55 for the Canterbury provincial team and eight for South Canterbury. He also represented Edinburgh on 35 occasions over two seasons under the stewardship of fellow coach Todd Blackadder.
