Elliot is a current and long-standing Maori All Black but his recent end of year tour to Canada was cut short due to a neck injury which will unfortunately see him miss most of the Super Rugby season. On the back of two Super Rugby titles, Elliot helped his new provincial Union, Counties Manukau, win the Ranfurly Shield over his former side Hawke’s Bay. A former Hawke’s Bay ITM Cup Player of the Year, Elliot is a martial arts black belt who captained New Zealand Schools in 2004 and represented New Zealand in age group basketball. He started his Super Rugby career with the Hurricanes in 2008, making his debut in Sydney against the Waratahs. The physical and competitive lock enters his second season with the Chiefs and was the leading try scorer for Wellington in the 2013 ITM Cup, scoring five times in three games until a broken finger prematurely ended his season. Filipo has played for Bayonne in France (2009-11) and Wasps in England (2011-12) as well as the Crusaders (2004-09) and will be highly valued for his leadership and experience this season.
