The 31-year-old has previously represented the Hurricanes, Highlanders and Chiefs, as well as Japan’s Honda Heat where he was playing before answering the call to return home to New Zealand. Triggs has 40 Super Rugby caps to his name since debuting for the Hurricanes against the Stormers in 2007. He also has experience at international level having represented the Maori All Blacks, including starting in their victories over England and Ireland in 2010. He represented New Zealand at U17, schoolboy and U20 grades and at just 21 years of age, already has ITM Cup and Super Rugby campaigns under his belt. He has had limited exposure to competition at this level – playing just five games in his debut season last year – and will be looking to make the most of any opportunities he is given in 2014. His three younger brothers all represent Auckland in various grade teams, while another brother currently plays for Waikato. Tu’ungafasi has slimmed down in the off-season, shedding nine kilograms from his 2013 playing weight.
