Barrett captained Taranaki during the 2013 ITM Cup and is vying for the highly competitive openside flanker position with Luke Braid and Brendon O’Connor, but he also has the ability to cover six and lock. The older brother of All Blacks flyhalf Beauden, Kane is a fantastic team player with a strong work ethic. LUKE BRAID Position: Flanker Physical: 185cm/101kg Date of Birth: 5 October 1988 Place of Birth: Tauranga, NZL Super Rugby Caps: 57 Super Rugby Points: 30 Super Rugby Debut: Round 2, 2010 vs Lions, Johannesburg Test Caps: 0 Test Points: 0 Test Debut – Luke Braid had his first experience with the Maori All Blacks in 2013 and really stood out as a player that has the potential to go to the next level. At just 25 years of age, Braid has been identified as a long-term leader of the Blues and was selected as captain for 2014. He has great on-field tactical nous and his technical ability over the ball is what makes him stand out. Braid was named Blues Player of the Year in 2011 and 2013 and was also a member of the New Zealand U20 team that won the Junior World Championship in 2008, with the flanker being named IRB Junior Player of the Year. He represented the Chiefs in 2009-10, earning his first Super Rugby cap against the Lions in Johannesburg. Last season he forced 20 turnovers; ranked equal-fourth in Super Rugby alongside Matt Todd and Rene Ranger.
