SUPER RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE 2014 WARATAHS 101 NATHAN GREY Position: Assistant Coach Born: 31 March 1975, Gosford AUS Coaching History: Kyuden Voltex Player/Coach (2005-10) Rebels Assistant Coach (2011-13) One of the state’s most-capped players of all time, former Wallabies and Waratahs centre Nathan Grey returns home to join the coaching team for the 2014 Super Rugby season. He is a specialist in defence and is coming off a five-year stint with Japanese side Kyuden and three seasons with the Rebels. Grey debuted as a player for the Waratahs in 1997 and went on to earn 94 state caps and score 21 tries in nine seasons. He still remains the state’s most-capped centre (92 of his caps were earned at centre) and ranks 16th amongst the Waratahs’ all-time try scorers. He made his Test debut for Australia against Scotland in 1998, subsequently earning 35 test caps and was a member of the Wallabies’ 1999 World Cup winning team. Born in Auckland, Alofa arrived in Australia as a four-year-old. The youngest of four siblings, he was given the occasional Sunday off by his parents, both Christian Ministers, to pursue his passion for sport. After a short stint in league, Alofa returned to rugby with West Harbour and stormed over for 13 tries in a dynamic debut season. Nicknamed ‘bread,’ the emerging winger is a fan of soul music and he’s a pretty handy musician, playing guitar, bass and drums.
