President''s' welcome On behalf of Queensland Rugby I would like to welcome you to the spiritual home of Rugby in the state, Ballymore, for this year’s Queensland Premier and Brisbane Club Rugby grand finals. Following two weeks of action across six senior, three colts and a women’s division, the grand finals are set to include nine clubs across the grades. We wish all the teams the best of luck. University, Sunnybank, Logan, GPS and Souths are all in line for multiple premierships with a number of teams in finals across the grades. Easts, Brothers, Norths and Bond University will also feature in finals this weekend. The 2014 regular Premier Grade season was hotly contested and six teams were in the running for the finals for the majority of the season, but minor premiers University proved their dominance - only dropping one match, against grand final rivals Sunnybank. The grand final this year will be a replay of the 2012 grand final, where University secured a 46-20 win over the Dragons. The memories of that match are still fresh in the memories of many Sunnybank players and supporters, making for an emotionally-charged encounter this Sunday. After claiming the Welsby Cup, Horsley Cup and Doughty Shield in 2014, University head coach Mick Heenan will be hoping the Red Heavies can complete the Premier Rugby silverware collection, and add the Hospital Cup to the St.Lucia trophy cabinet. Sunnybank scored 28 unanswered points in the second half of the preliminary-final last Sunday, to come back from a 24-5 half-time deficit and claim their spot in the grand final. Ballymore provides a great venue for finals Rugby and I hope you all enjoy the weekend at the home of Rugby in Queensland. To all the club volunteers, administrators, coaches, managers, officials, parents and spectators who are associated with Rugby, thank you for your tireless efforts this season. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Tony Shaw Queensland Rugby Union President 3
