Brisbane has the great honour of being only the third city in the world to host The Perfect American after Madrid and London. It is a global, ambitious work, which I am proud to announce as the headline event for Brisbane Festival 2014. We could not have brought The Perfect American to Brisbane without collaborating with OperaQ or without the incredible support of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), which will convert its Concert Hall to ‘lyric mode’ for the event. In 2014 I will complete my final Brisbane Festival after five years in the role of Artistic Director and I am thrilled that this will be part of my legacy. I hope audiences will seize this rare opportunity to experience Glass’s beautiful music and see something truly out of the ordinary.
